Penn Oscar-watch update

Last week, I told you about producer Todd Lieberman C’95 and his Oscar-nominated film, The Fighter.

This week, I’m back on Penn Oscar-watch to tell you about another producer/alumnus and another Oscar-nominated film: Tom Heller C’95 and 127 Hours. This isn’t Tom’s first trip to the Academy Awards; last year, he was there as executive producer of Precious, which took home awards for Writing and Actress in a Supporting Role. (As you may remember, it was also up for Best Picture, but lost to The Hurt Locker.)

127 Hours, which Heller co-produced, is nominated for quite a few Oscars this year, including Best Picture and Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role.

Tom’s newest executive-producing project – Win Win – will hit theaters next month. It debuted at the Sundance Film Festival last month, with reviewers describing it as “a film with a big heart,” “a less schmaltzy and cloying version of The Blind Side,” and “a crowd pleaser.”

Check out the Win Win and 127 Hours trailers below, and good luck to Tom later this month!
